Petrel Reservoir Engineering - RILS (Remote Instructor Led Series), Series 2

This is a Remote Instructor Led Series (RILS) training. The remote classroom delivery is a modality that takes advantage of the instructor led training content, while allowing the same content to be delivered remotely. All training sessions will be delivered online with no face-to-face classroom attendance.

This course introduces reservoir engineers and asset teams to the interactive Petrel reservoir engineering tools to construct and manage simulation models.

The complete course consists of 3 series:

This is Series 2 and will be delivered in three (3) sessions lasting ~ four (4) Hours each. An intensive agenda also implies a homework after each session. Hence full-time commitment is expected from participants.

This series takes you through the well and completion engineering workflow. You will learn several ways to display and analyze simulation results in the Petrel environment using various results visualization and analysis tools. The history matching process is discussed and some modification options that affect dynamic behavior of a simulation model are introduced (add aquifer, property modification, end point scaling, case conversion).

The hands-on exercises are structured to enable the trainee apply the software skills obtained during training and cover most of the Petrel simulation workflows. Overall, pre-processing and post-processing of simulation data will be done within the Petrel environment.

Each participants will need the following to successfully attend the course:

    1. Windows-based PC*
    2. USB Headset
    3. Internet Access capable for 720HD video-streaming
    4. Second monitor or tablet (highly recommended)
    5. Webcam (highly recommended)

*Hands-on exercises will be performed using locally installed Petrel and Eclipse software; hence client machine must satisfy min. requirements. Alternatively, practical sessions can be accessed through DELFI Cloud Environment (subject to availability).

    Day 1
    • Well path design
    • Completion design

In this session, you learn how to select the correct simulator well model for your reservoir simulation. You learn about the multiple trajectory well model in Petrel and how to create a well in Petrel by using interactive and automated well path design approaches.

    Day 2
    • Summary results analysis
    • 3D results analysis

In this session, you learn how to set up a simulation case with an existing development strategy and use the Results tab on the Define simulation case dialog box to define which computed results will be generated by the simulator.

    Day 3
    • History matching workflow
    • Modify a simulation model
    • Aquifers
    • Introduction to workflows
    • Simulation case editor

In this session, you are introduced to the objective and overall structure of the history matching process. You learn how to use the tools in Petrel to modify elements of a simulation model that affect its dynamic behavior.

Development and exploration petroleum engineers, reservoir engineers and geoscientists.

    • Well engineering
    • Simulation run and results viewing
    • Introduction to history matching

General knowledge of reservoir engineering, and/or petroleum geology and geophysics.

Attendees must complete Series 1 of Petrel Reservoir Engineering - RILS or be familiar with the corresponding workflows.
