Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will provide knowledge and understanding of how to use the Omega software processing package to process a land 3D seismic dataset through a basic time processing sequence. It will include parameter testing from example flows, and how to convert these into production flows. The use of the Interactive Velocity Analysis application (InVA) will be covered to pick a stacking velocity field.
Alongside this the participant will learn the appropriate QC for each step of the processing sequence and how to sort data to different domains. At the end of this class participants will be have the skills needed to be a contributing member of a production processing team.
Introduction, Reformat and Sorting
At the end of this session the student will be able to set up a flow to reformat a SEG-D dataset. They will be able to explain the key points of data sorting and how to sort data into different domains. Refraction statics are introduced with the student being able to calculate statics and QC them.
Day 2Noise Attenuation
At the end of day two the student will be able to set up flows for surface consistent deconvolution and 3D random noise attenuation. They will be able to explain the key parameters for each technique and QC the results.
Day 3Velocity Picking and Interpolation
At the end of this session the student will be able to prepare data for migration velocity picking. The will be able to explain the benefits of smoothing and interpolation. The student will pick a set of velocities in order to create a stacking velocity field.
Day 4Residual Statics and Migration
At the end of this session the student will be able to explain the need for residual statics, generate the statics and QC them. They will then use these residual statics for a target line Kirchhoff pre-stack time migration.
Day 5Final Stack and Post-Stack Processing
At the end of this session the student will be able to stack their data and QC the result. They will be able to choose parameters for post-stack filtering and scaling. The class will round up with a review of the material covered and a chance to ask further questions.
This course is intended for geophysicists with a basic understanding of Omega who wish to learn how to use the software to process a simple land time workflow.
An understanding of the concepts underlying seismic data processing and common data processing challenges. Participants without any prior knowledge of Omega must have taken the Fundamentals of Omega class before enrolling for this class.
