    Process Safety Management for Line Managers

    Course Description

    • This course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and tools to understand the basics and principles of process safety, four pillars of process safety and the 20 elements of Risk Based Process Safety (RBPS) PSM and its implementation of them.
    Course Objective
    • By the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:
    Value the importance of Risk-Based Process Safety (RBPS) and how it fits into business success
    List the four pillars and 20 elements of RBPS and describe their interaction.
    Describe an RBPS management system that supports the culture, needs, and resources of your company.
    Apply the 20 elements of RBPS design to your workplace by utilizing the accepted methods and resources.
    Understand reasons for Process Safety and analyze case studies of major accidents and how failure Process Safety elements may contribute to Major Accidents Hazards.
    Recognize what good and poor process safety culture looks like.
    Know Process Safety Leadership – Roles & Responsibilities and accountabilities.
    Describe how process safety management should be used in coordination with process design and plant operations.
    Compare the different types of process hazard analysis techniques including an introduction to HAZOP.
    Explain the importance of inherently safer processes during plant design along with risk analysis and management.
    Discuss the principles of Risk Analysis and Risk Management
    Analyze the concept of layers of protection to prevent and/or mitigate the loss of containment events. Understand process safety performance and the critical role of the line managers to drive those enablers.
    Understand the importance of learning from experience to contribute to minimizing Major Accident Hazard recurrence.

    Day 1

    • Overview of the process safety and the distinction between Process Safety vs Occupational Safety;
    • Importance of Risk-Based Process Safety (RBPS) compared to other PSM strategies;
    • Overview of the disasters in the chemical industry and the relationship between the root causes and process safety defects;
    • Risk Management Process and ALARP Concept;
    • Overview about Barrier Management and layers of protection analysis.
    • Overview of "Little General Propane Explosion 2007" of major accidents from the perspective of leadership and cultural roots of the event;
    • An overview of 20 elements of risk-based process safety;
    • Inherently safer processes during plant design;
    • Introduction about Process Hazards and Risk Analysis techniques (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie, QRA and FERA, etc….);
    • Process Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (KPIs Exercise Using Online Google Forms).
    • Process safety Situation / Scenarios vs 20 Elements Quizzes (Using Online Google Forms)
