Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will provide the basic knowledge and skills required to successfully participate in an oil and gas project. This awareness course is designed to provide attendees with an introduction to the concepts of project management. As such, this course will provide a good basis for any person seeking future career advancement as a Team Lead or Project Manager. It will also establish a common language, thus facilitating moves across segments or departments.
The case studies for applying the project management methodology will use oil and gas examples and can be tailored (for an additional fee) to the specific needs of a customer. It will start with correctly defining the project, including scope and requirements, then to planning, implementing the plan, and finally, closing out the project.
The course follows the guidelines established by the Project Management Institute and their Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), 6th Edition. It will utilize a combination of teaching components to ensure participants absorb both the theory and the practical application of the topics. This will include instructor led sessions, group discussions, exercises and templates, and practical application of the concepts.
Although this is an awareness level course, this course does qualify for 16 PDUs by the Project Management Institute (PMI) ®.
Project Management Overview, Initiation, and Planning
Participants will be introduced to project management terminology and the importance of project management for organizations in realizing the business benefits of their projects. At the end of the day, participants should be able to define the difference between projects and operational work, explain the relationship of the six project management constraints, identify the key components of the project life cycle, and identify expectations of team members in each phase.
Day 2Project Execution - Managing Scope, Budget, Schedule, and Risks
Having the Time and cost estimate is the first hurdle of creating a Project Execution Plan. Now the task is to understand and build the rest of the plans that are part of the project journey and are found in the project execution plan.
The course will wrap up with several hands-on EVA exercises, a simple methodology on how to conduct lessons learned will be practiced, and a brief session to organizational change management will be presented.
The course is aimed at anyone who desires an increased understanding of how to participate successfully in a project. Anyone who has minimal background in project management will find it useful.
