    Roadmap to Achieve Sustainability

    The course objective is to assist the participant in building the roadmap to deliver and sustain change initiatives.  The course will target sustainable issues using case studies and exercises.  The prescribed case studies and work will train participants on ow to recognize resistance and have the tools to overcome that resistance, further promoting sustainability efforts.  Upon completion of the course each participant will have a draft roadmap for sustainability in their area of responsibility.  It will become evident during this course as to why sustainability requires robust change management to achieve success.


    Overview of change management requirements

    • Overview of sustainability and company’s long-term commitment
    • Understand the reasons for resistance to changes and the types of resistors.
    • Recognize the requirements for successfully implementing changes related to sustainability.
    • Build a plan that engages people with a checklist for guidance.        

    Begin to build their personal sustainability plan              


    Building a Case for Change and the communication plan to engage and gain support.

    • Write a case for change for my area of responsibility: Why are we doing this?
    • Understand all the common elements included in a viable communication plan.
    • Use various communication techniques to manage expectations in stakeholders.
    • Learn how to communicate issues/problems in a way that doesn’t create doubt in the initiative.

    Key to support for sustainability is to develop a Case for Change and a communication plan that builds confidence and reinforces the change

    Review potential process changes and the impact of those changes on sustainability.

    • Assess the process changes in sustainability for impact of various processes on roles.
    • Conduct an impact analysis on various roles.
    • Revise roles and adjust role descriptions to support sustainability.
    • Determine how to address the changes to prepare employees.
    • Create the training and leadership plans and modify the communication plan if appropriate.
    • Review required changes in policies that must be implemented to successfully support sustainability.

    Incorporate leadership plan, training plan, and any modifications to communications plan into the roadmap to achieve sustainability

    Managing the risks to achieve sustainability.

    • Identify potential organizational risks created to achieve a sustainable change.
    • Lay the foundation for decision making using the RAPID model.
    • Use persuasion to mitigate risks for various stakeholders
    • Identify tasks that require collaboration to support sustainability and determine the organization’s readiness for successful collaboration

    Participants will work to create a risk matrix with an assessment of the scale of the risks and identify clear action steps within their roadmap               
    Create a timetable for implementation and cover the tools available.

    • Draft a tentative timeline for implementing the actions required to move to sustainability.
    • Determine how to coordinate your personal roadmap with other colleagues and managers.
    • Assess team readiness and focus on activities to address any areas that indicate lack of readiness.
    • Determine how to handle punch list items to be completed after the class is completed.
    • Review the change management tools and templates available.

    The final part of the roadmap is created. Participants will be encouraged to share their draft roadmaps and request feedback from their colleagues

    Management and team leads who will lead sustainability initiatives in their sphere of responsibility and must produce a roadmap that ensures sustainability.

      • Participants are managers, project managers or team leaders, who have fundamental project training or equivalent project management experience. 
      • Participants are to have knowledge of organizational change management and are engaged or soon to be engaged in sustainability efforts.
