    Slinging, Handling and Mechanical lifting Operations

    Upon completion of the course the student should be able to state:

    •  Describe the principal hazards associated with lifting equipment and the slinging of loads
    • Conduct a pre-use examination of lifting equipment and identify any obvious faults
    • Describe the correct procedure for the safe slinging of loads
    • Describe the correct procedure for the safe lifting of a simple load

    • Safe Use of Mobile Cranes
    • Planning for Safe Lifting Operations
    • Safe Use of Tower Cranes

    • Basic Rigging and Slinging Methods
    • Lifting Accidents and Emergency Response

    • Classroom with Theoretical and Practical Implementation

    Day 1

    • Session 1
    • International Legislation HASWA, LOLER and PUWER.
    • The requirements for third party inspections and color codes.
    • Responsibilities of the Banksman, Slinger and Crane Operators.
    • Types of Lifting Equipment.
    Session 2
    • Methods of slinging, a wide variety of loads
    • Correct load slinging
    • Load stability
    • Center of gravity
    Session 3
    • Calculations of Load
    • Load and rigging protection
    • Crane signaling
    • The pre-use inspection criteria of lifting accessories.
    Session 4
    • The formulation of risk assessments and lifting plans.
    • Methods of communication using radio and hand signals.
    • Load weight assessment, sling angles and tensions.
    • Storage and loading methods of containers and half heights.
    • The safe execution of the lifting of a variety of loads.

    Day 2

    • Practical Applications

    • All personnel who are involved in basic and crane operations.
    • Riggers.
    • Liting Supervisors.
    • Deck Crew.
