Develop measurable skills and capabilities
This course will provide the participants with the knowledge needed to understand and enhance their mechanical aptitude in the area of both steam and gas turbines.
The purpose of this course will be to develop a working knowledge of the various types of turbines, as well as the different procedures and regulations associated with the operation and installation of this equipment. With the completion of this course the participants will be equipped with the knowledge required to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair turbines and their related systems.
Technicians are required to have a technical comprehension regarding turbines and the associated systems. The technicians that participate in this course will be better equipped to repair, maintain, install, and commission turbines and their associated systems, as well as increase the knowledge within their maintenance team, and increasing the safe and efficient productivity of the mechanical systems. With further on-job training and experience the technician will be able to attend more advanced training in this area therefore enhancing the maintenance team’s capabilities and knowledge.
Description and Application
The focus of day one will be to discuss the various types of turbines and the basic terminology associated with this rotating equipment. The hazards and safe working practices of turbines will also be covered. Participant will learn about steam, gas, hydro, and wind turbines and their operations.
Day 2Maintenance and Installation
Day two will cover the maintenance and installation of turbines. Participants will learn about the different components and their purpose and operations. Installation factors, such as manufacture specifications, job site specifications, location drawings, auxiliary systems, and the sequence of installation will also be covered. The day will end with the different procedures used in the installation of turbines and their components.
Day 3Maintenance and Installation (Cont.)
The last day will teach participants about the considerations for repair or replacement. The tools and equipment used for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for turbines will also be covered. Manufacture specification, representatives, and technical manuals for troubleshooting and inspecting turbines will be discussed. Participants will also learn about the procedures used to commission turbines.
This course is mainly targeted to mechanical technicians working in the field as an introduction or refresher. The course can also be applicable to employees working with equipment purchasing, procurement, storage, and job planning, as well as immediate supervisors to the working technicians.
Participants should have completed a minimum of awareness training in compressors. To provide a better understanding of turbines and their associated components it is recommended that all trainees have completed training on dynamic compressors.
